Drum Workshop April 23, 2022 at Sacred Spiral Sanctuary: Northern European Pegged Drum on Cedar
This listing is only for those attending the Drum Workshop on April 23rd at Sacred Spiral Sanctuary in Ethyl, Washington. Northern European Pegged Drums are constructed with wooden pegs. The handle is a suspended piece of wood or antler, smooth to the touch and tied into the hoop with matching rawhide. Because the handle is not directly attached to the head of the drum, these drums are highly resonant.
We will be making our drums on Cedar hoops. Cedar is a strong and lightweight wood that makes excellent drum rims. You will be able to choose Deer, Elk, Horse or Reindeer for this style of drum.
Deer drums have excellent sustain with nice harmonics, with a mid-high to low tone depending on size and thickness. The deer represents love and circulation and is aligned with the heart chakra.
Elk carries the energy of stamina and getting rid of toxic ideas, especially those instilled in childhood. It reminds me of a young warrior who has your back. Especially helpful in recovering from childhood abuse. These drums tend to be deep and give a nice bump with some resonance and harmonic response.
Horse drums have excellent harmonics, with a mid to low tone depending on size and thickness. The horse is the traditional journey animal and corresponds to the third eye chakra.
Reindeer drums are highly resonant with a strong “wild” quality. The Reindeer comes from Finland, and has been both the sustenance and the life blood of many Northern Europeans. It brings an energy of gender balance and abundance. It is light, almost white in color.
