Ceremonial Spirit Drums

We make these drums in honor of the ancestors and the animals of this land.  The dimensions are 24 x 3, and they are made with a branching four to eight direction handle.  The hoop is maple.

They can be played as a hand drum or mounted in a stand with the optional handles (shown below).  They come with two beaters, one hard and one soft fur.  They are always scalloped to allow for the handles to be mounted to the frame without affecting the head of the drum. Plans for a stand are included.

American Bison (Buffalo)

Arguably the most important spiritual animal to the people of the North American Plains, the buffalo represents abundance and connection with the Creator.  Buffalo drums are medium to dark in color have a very low tone with some underlying harmonics.  The buffalo drum carries Grandfather energy.  It is always scalloped because of the thickness of the hide.

Horse is the traditional journey animal, used by shamanic workers in both the old and new world.  Horse drums are dark in color with a heady tone.  The horse drum is associated with the third eye chakra.

American Elk

An important spiritual animal to our North American Ancestors, the elk represents will, stamina and desire.  Elk drums are light to medium in color have a low tone with underlying harmonics.  The elk drum is associated with the solar plexus chakra and carries a masculine energy.

About the hoops:

Maple is common in both Europe and North America. It is considered a tree of balance, wisdom and prosperity.  The life cycle of the Maple exemplifies the turning of the seasons.  Maple is used to make many things including musical instruments, and is considered a tonewood, which is a wood that carries sound waves well.  It is a hard wood with a bright sound.  These hoops are machine made 10-ply and are heavier but extremely durable.
